Christmas Eve and I’m still going…

Well it is christmas eve, yay! I’m still going strong. I’ve been working on a website for a client which has been taking a lot of time. I’ve worked the last two days updating the computers at the school. I’ve been working on converting my uncle’s tapes to cds. A side takes about an hour and he has like 15 tapes. I got 5 left!

I got my christmas presents wrapped and they are ready to go for tomorrow. It is raining here, and it is pretty crappy. I’m hoping the weather gets a bit better. Maybe some snow for christmas?

    Hey there , happy new year!

    I was just wondering , how are you converting those tapes to CD’s ?
    Having the same thing here but my dad doesn’t know how to ..

    Thanks in advance and great blog ,

    Same to you!

    Here is a little quick howto:

    1. Hook up tape player to computer via Line-In port
    2. Unmute line in alsa (capture and playback)
    3. Run arecord -t wav -f cd myfilename.wav
    4. Once recording is done open up the wav in audacity
    5. Find some dead audio with static
    6. Select it
    7. Go to Effects->Tools->Utility->Noise Removal->Noise Removal
    8. Click Get noise profile
    9. Select whole audio file
    10. Go to Effects->tools->utility->Noise Removal->Noise Removal
    11. Click “Ok”
    12. File -> Export as mp3 or whatever

    If you need a more in depth explanation just let me know!

    Oh cool thanks a lot for the quick reply!
    I followed your instructions , and the only problem is a 2 second pause at the beginning of the .wav but no matter :D
    I even wrote a bash script to do it for me ( LAZY ) :)
    Anyway , i wish you a very very good year and see ya , i guess.

    You can select the 2 seconds in audacity then go to edit->delete.

    Same! Have a great new year! Thanks for reading :-)

    Lol, I just taught myself how to do this around the same time you were doing it. My family had some recordings of Christmas music they wanted to keep.

    Used the same recipe you did, although I recorded directly into audacity instead of using arecord.
