School is out for Summer!

May 25th, 2009, 4:21 pm

Well it’s hard to believe but I am done with high school, at least as far as I’m concerned. I had my last final on Wednesday of last week. Thursday and Friday I shadowed my Aunt, who is a French teacher, at a local high school. All in all it was pretty boring, I wasn’t able to do much. The proxy was way to strict IMO. Sourceforge was blocked, that says enough right there. Tuesday I have to go back and then on June 2, I officially graduate.

So summer has started. I will hopefully devote some time to various projects such as arch-home and audio-recorder. I’m taking two classes at Lakeland Community College and working full time at NDCL. At least I’ll make a bit of dough.

Blood Donation Adventure

December 6th, 2008, 10:06 pm

So a few days ago I finally decided to byte the bullet and sign up to donate blood. I wasn’t going to donate unless if I was able to do it first thing in the morning, mainly because I had tests, in my last two classes.

Anyways, I was little bit nervous that I’d pass out or something like that, the main reason why I waited over 6 months to give blood. So yesterday was the day to donate blood. I woke up, ate a waffle and drank a glass of milk. Rushed off to school and just made it on time by the skin of my teeth! I hide my book bag and laptop, went down to the office to check-in (as I don’t have a class block 1), and then went to donate blood.

First, I had to look over a book which basically said if you have any type of disease or illness don’t bother to donate, turn around and go back. After reading the book, I checked in, and then sat down to wait for my turn. When I was called, they took my blood pressure, temperature, checked my iron count, etc… standard stuff. Lastly I had to take a test to make sure I could donate blood. The test asked if you were out of the country, had this or that medications, etc…

So I passed the “test” and I was ready to go. I had to wait for a few minutes for a bed to become available. The nurse who took my blood was very nice. She asked me if I had an arm preference and how I was doing. She put iodine on my arm, found my vein, and stuck me with the needle. I was off. She asked me how I was feeling and I said I was fine. My friend was talking to me and everything was going well. He then went to entertain someone else. Again the nurse asked me if I was feeling alright, I said yes, and then she told me that I was half way done.

Shortly after being told I was half way done, I started to feel a bit strange. I didn’t think much of it. The strange feeling got worse rather quickly. I was starting to feel lightheaded. As the nurse told me to let her know if I didn’t feel, I did just that. Right after I told her I wasn’t feeling well and that I was light headed, I got extremely dizzy and started to blackout. The nurse lowered the bed and raised my feet up (I guess this helps). The put cold wet rags on me and I eventually recovered. From what I was told I was very pale. I probably laid on the bed for about 20-30 minutes afterward. I eventually got up and went to get some sugar (cookies, chips) and fluid (water + coke). While I was eating I got sick to my stomach and I had to use the bathroom. Of course that had to have someone escort me to the bathroom to make sure I didn’t pass-out or anything like that.

I went back to the gym and stayed there until lunch. I missed my government class and homeroom. I went to donate at 8:00am and didn’t leave until 11:00am. I felt pretty shitty until about 2:00pm. However, I felt fine the rest of the day. Needless to say it was an interesting  experience. I plan on trying again, but drinking a lot more before I donate, and having the bed put into a bed position before I start.

Speech Midterm – A+

October 16th, 2008, 9:17 pm

I took my speech midterm today. The previous class he gave us all the questions and answers to the midterm so it was fairly simple. As I suspected, I passed with flying colors 45/45 which gets reduced to 15/15 (100pt total grading system).

BlueEagle

October 3rd, 2008, 1:12 pm

BlueEagle is a server I have created at my high school. I have created this server to allow students in the Advance Web Page Design class to upload the web pages they are working to a web server, BlueEagle.

Yesterday was the day I gave instructions to my classmates telling them how to upload there web pages. There were only minor problems that I was able to fix on a per user basis. I was surprised at how smoothly everything went. All the user accounts worked, and changing the password worked using the web script I wrote.

Many people were fascinated that they were able to access their website from a server within the school. Many did not like the fact the teacher said she would publish them on the schools website once we got done!

Overall I am surpised at the results of my work. I am continuing my work, by making a dyanmic homepage and then writing up a book on how to operate the server. The book will be hard, because the faculty has never used linux before, so I must write the book from a window user prespective.

No Cisco this Semester

August 27th, 2008, 5:56 pm

When I showed up to class on Monday, there wasn’t professor. We waited 45 minutes (the 3 of us) and finally went to Admissions, which sent us to the Dean of Engineering + Mathematics. She told us she would call us on Tuesday and let us know what was going to happen. Tuesday morning I went up to the college and asked if she knew anything yet, she said, told me that for sure we’d have a class or independent study. When I left I doubled check with her and she told me, she would call me later in the day.

I didn’t get a phone call on Tuesday. So I went up to the college in the morning to switch classes to Red Hat Linux Essentials.

Today (Wednesday) I get home from high school and I get a message telling me to come in because the class is go! So now the class is going on with one of the best professors, without me, and only 2 other students!!!

Why didn’t I just wait until the end of the day Wednesday? Because the college class counts as both high school and college credit and I didn’t want to get behind. I was afraid that I would not be able to make up the extra work due having to mange all my high school classes. In addition one of the other Professors told me that he was highly surprised that the class was going on and that it wasn’t canceled. Finally when we talked to the dean she suggested that the class might be independent study, which was something I did not feel comfortable with.

I guess I’m just a bit ticked because the dean was unable to call me when she say she would and it resulted that I lost out on a very small sized class with a really good professor.

However, on the bright side it might be better. I hopefully be able to get Cisco and Red Hat certified after the spring semester. If things go as planned I should be able to take Cisco 3 + 4 in the spring along with the next Red Hat class.

CNET 1300 + 1400, duds?

August 25th, 2008, 9:04 pm

Well I want to Lakeland for my first class today, Cisco Networking 1300. The other two students in the class showed up, however there was no Professor! After waiting 45 minutes for him to show up we finally went admissions. They sent us back to speak to a lady in the Engineering building who took our names and told us we would receive a call tomorrow and we would find out what’s going to happen to the class.

This is the only class the professor is scheduled to teach this semester and considering there is only 3 students in the class I don’t think it’ll go off. Another professor told us that he was surprised that didn’t cancel the class and the never hold a class with just three students. :(

If the class does not go through I am hoping I can switch my speech class to Mon. + Wed. and then take a Red Hat class on Tuesdays. I emailed the Speech Professor to see if he would issue and override so I can join the full class. I also emailed the Red Hat Professor to see if I needed the prerequisite (Intro. to Personal Computers). I am really hoping the the Cisco class goes through but I know that is not very likely.

What a crazy Summer!!

August 21st, 2008, 8:29 pm

The summer has finally wrapped up and I am back in school. I got my laptop back in about a weeks time and it appears that they replaced the motherboard. I finished both summer reading books, The Life of Pi and The Alchemist. They were both decent books and pretty easy to read.

Last week I went to the Poison concert which was absolutely amazing! It was even better because I went with a few good friends.

My classes at Lakeland start next week. I am taking CNET 1300 + 1400 along with a Speech course. The speech class is Tue + Thurs 4:00-5:15 and the Cisco classes are 5:15 – 8:00 on Mon. + Wed.

Now hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with this blog a little better now!
